Remote patient care on the rise

As the population continues to age, the healthcare system and its facilities are under increasing strain. Remote patient monitoring can help alleviate this burden. At the same time, families of elderly patients may prefer to use RPM to care for their loved ones at home rather than visiting them in nursing homes. Remote monitoring of patients allows busy caregivers, such as non-medically trained relatives, to keep an eye on the patient while still leading their own lives.

Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has given another reason for remote monitoring: To limit the spread of the virus. Infected individuals who do not require hospital care can be quarantined at home. Regular virtual check-ins by medical professionals maintain medical care. This reduces the burden on the system, allows patients to receive appropriate medical care, and reduces the risk of healthcare workers becoming infected with the virus.
